The Municipality of Bifrost-Riverton collects property taxes on an annual basis. The property tax statements were mailed out on July 29th & 30th, 2024 and are payable on September 27th. Taxes are assessed from January 1st to December 31st of the current year.
All outstanding balances are charged a penalty of 1.25% per month on the 1st of every month until the balance is paid in full. The annual rate of interest the Municipality charges is 15%.
If you do not receive a property tax statement, please contact the Municipal Office at (204) 376-2391. It is the property owner’s responsibility to notify the Municipal office of mailing address changes. This can be done in person, via phone or by email at
If you have purchased or sold property, please check with your solicitor to see who is responsible for tax payment.
Cash, debit or cheques payments can be made during office hours, or contact your banking institution to arrange for online payment. There is also a drop box at the front door of the municipal opffice which is accessible 24/7 for cheque payments. The current year’s taxes must be received by the Municipality on the last business day of September or they will be considered late and will be assessed a penalty at the rate listed above.

School Taxes
School Divisions in Manitoba determine their own mill rate each year to be charged to property owners. The Municipality is responsible for collecting this money and then remitting it to the School Division in accordance with provincial legislation. For questions regarding school taxes, contact your local school division office. For Evergreen School Division, contact (204) 642-6260 and for Lakeshore School Division, contact (204) 739-2101.
Farmland School Tax Rebate *
The Province has provided a program which rebates to the property owner a certain percentage of school tax that is paid on farmland. Rebate forms are mailed out to property owners who have applied in the previous year. If you did not receive a form, you can be download it from the MASC website or you can contact Manitoba Agricultural Services Corporation at (204) 726-7068 for a copy to be mailed to you.
You must be able to show proof of payment when submitting your rebate form to MASC. The Municipal Office can sign the rebate form indicating payment has been received OR you can mail a copy of the receipt for tax payment along with your rebate form. If approved by MASC, the rebate is mailed out to the applicant.
Education Property Tax Credit Adviance (EPTCA) previously known as Homeowners Tax Assistance Credit *
This provincial program provides a credit or rebate to home owners on school tax portion of the taxes on their primary residence, and seniors may be eligible for additional savings. This tax credit is allowed for the principle residence of the homeowner only, and is only applicable for properties which have been occupied prior to January 1st of that year. If you did not receive this credit on your tax bill despite meeting the eligibility requirements, it can be claimed on your income tax. See the Finance Department website for details.

The municipality would like to remind property owners to update their mailing address with the Municipal Office whenever it changes. This is to ensure the proper delivery of tax bills, receipts and other municipal correspondence.
The Municipality of Bifrost-Riverton offers online payment options for Tax and Utility Bills, by transferring the amount owed from your bank account to ours. Please be advised that there is generally a 24 hour delay when adding a payee, and a transaction will take approximately 24 - 48 hours to be completed.
Via your Banking Institution – Communicate with your bank to find out if it deals with the Central 1 system. Add "Bifrost-Riverton, Mun Property Taxes" or "Bifrost-Riverton, Mun Utilities" as a biller/payee to your bank account. When prompted for an account number, use your property tax roll number or utility account number. Depending on your bank, the number of digits required may vary. Remove any 0's from the beginning of the roll/account number and add any 0's to the end if more digits are required.
Via the Telpay Website – We have been advised as of July 21, 2020 that the Telpay website is not allowing new accounts to be created, this method of payment may only be an option if you have previously created an account. Go online to http://www.telpay.ca/ and create an account as an individual paying a business. The site will need some information on your personal banking establishment and account. Add "Bifrost, RM of", "Riverton Taxes (Village)" or "Riverton Utilities (Village of)" as a biller/payee and transfer money from your bank account to ours through the Telpay website. When prompted for an account number, use your property tax roll number or utility account number. Depending on your bank, the number of digits required may vary. Remove any 0's from the beginning of the roll/account number and add any 0's to the end if more digits are required.
